How do I check and replace my Vanguard® engine's air filter?

Paper Air Filter 

  1. Loosen the fastener(s). 

  2. Remove the cover. 

  3. Remove the filter. 

  4. To loosen debris, gently tap the filter on a hard surface. If the filter is excessively dirty, replace it with a new filter. 

  5.  Install the filter. 

  6.  Install the cover and secure it with the fastener(s). Make sure the fastener(s) is tight.  

Paper Air Filter - Low Profile

  1. Move the latch to unlock the cover.

  2. Push in the tabs and remove the cover. 

  3. Remove the filter. 

  4. To loosen debris, gently tap the filter on a hard surface. If the filter is excessively dirty, replace it with a new filter. 

  5. Install the filter. 

  6. Install the cover. Move the latch to the locked position. 

    1. NOTE: Check the fit of the foam seal. Make sure that the perimeter foam seal is correctly seated in the channel.

       

*Never start and run the engine with the air cleaner assembly (if equipped) or the air filter (if equipped) removed. 

**Do not use pressurized air or solvents to clean the filter. Pressurized air can damage the filter and solvents will dissolve the filter. See the Maintenance Schedule for service requirements.
